Meg Nelson is a 3D design artist whose sculptures explore perspectives of the natural world through her experiences as a queer woman. Using a variety of materials, including papier-mâché, natural ephemera she finds on walks around the neighborhood, and things most people would consider trash, she makes art that evokes the vast array of human emotions.
This piece, titled “Thrown Back to the Middle Ages,” is an iron maiden, made after the 2024 presidential election results. Meg wanted to express the overwhelming feeling of being trapped and deeply unsafe as a woman in our current political climate combined with the unfeeling cold iron and cruelty of medieval times.
