The Rise editorial team is pleased to announce its initial collection of work for publication and awards.

For our first issue, we published 21 pieces of art, 12 poems, and 9 prose pieces from a total of 28 PC students. These works were selected from over 100 submissions during our review period. While publication constitutes significant recognition in itself, our editorial team, with some help from faculty judges, also selected our favorite two pieces from each genre to receive a monetary prize. 

The editorial team would like to extend heartfelt congratulations to the award winners below. It is an honor to feature your work in Rise! 

Prose (Fiction and Nonfiction):

• 1st Place: “I’m Worried That I’m Worried About All the Wrong Things” by Hannah Butler Robbins
• 2nd Place: “Amitabha Stupa Peace Park: Scooby Doo” by Corrina Tape

Poetry:

• 1st Place: “Adam’s Rib” by Taylor Miskowski
• 2nd Place: “Open Casket” by Brenda Mason

Visual Art:

• 1st Place: “Beauty from Ashes” by Cindy Maria
• 2nd Place: “Phoenix” by Luis Zamora

We are currently accepting submissions for issue 2! We will continue to award monetary prizes for first and second place in each genre. To read about the submission process, and to submit your best work, see the Submissions page from our top menu.
