Javier Soqui is a Phoenician born from Mexican immigrants in the year 2000. Creativity has always been at the center of his life, whether or not he knew it. He wouldn’t dedicate himself to art and music until late middle school and early high school. Of the two outlets for creativity, music is his primary. Sound has power in it. The way it drives the atmosphere and commands attention through rhythm and timbre fascinates him deeply, coupled with visual elements coming together and painting a picture, concept, and abstraction, manifesting the world behind his eyes. Electronic music stood out to him the most. Unconventional frequencies gave him an allure. Music was no longer just playing an instrument to the best of one’s ability. Music was a conscious, purposeful arrangement of sound. With computer technology, Javier strives to produce music with synths, effects, and re-contextualized samples. Javier has produced music videos under the name “Soqui,” each with a cover art/visualizer that was either created by Soqui or commissioned with his artistic vision in mind.
