Alessandra Deciga

Alessandra Deciga, “Lose My Cool,” Graphite, 2026

Alessandra Deciga is a self-taught Mexican artist. She uses graphite pencils to make drawings that combine realist and surreal attitudes towards still life and portraits. Alessandra says, “Every time I pick up my pencil, I feel inspired to express myself freely and passionately, turning blank pages into meaningful pieces of art that reflect strength, creativity, and endless possibility.” Alessandra began her first drawing when she was 9. She recalls fondly that her father, an artist, encouraged her to keep going and carry on his legacyShe recalls her mother supporting her at an early age, when she caught Alessandra stealing her pencils and drawing random doodles on her work papers. Inspired by animation and cartoons, she began drawing comics. In high school, she eventually got into art shows, selling some of her art and winning awards. Her family showed up and supported her.

Alessandra works with various mediums, including watercolor, oil painting, charcoal, 3D printing, ceramics, and acrylic. Working with mainly 2D art, much of her work consists of still-life constructions built around the way surfaces play with color and light. She uses graphite pencils to turn simple lines into powerful stories. Working with graphite inspired her to see the beauty in simplicity and power in expression, encouraging Alessandra to create art that is bold, emotional, and completely true to who she is as an artist.

Alessandra has exhibited in 25 solo and group shows since high school. She has been awarded 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places, often winning “Best in Show.” “Lose My Cool” is a still life portrait that changed her life. It received first place in the Vanguard Showcase hosted by Eric Fischl and Marilyn Minter at the Phoenix Art Museum, first place in the Eric Fischl Gallery, and Best in Show at Scottsdale Community College. Alessandra’s work is on its way to the International League of Innovation art competition, competing against 16 colleges around the U.S.A.
