About

Rise, Phoenix College’s literary and arts magazine, embraces unique voices from a diverse population of artists and writers, fostering connections between our students and the wider creative community. Our vision is to uplift and celebrate our students and local artists and writers. Rise is a student-driven project. The magazine is published annually both digitally and in print.

The publication of this magazine is made possible by the students and faculty in the Special Interest CRW298AC course, open for enrollment next Spring 2027, and the Creative Writing, English, and Art programs at Phoenix College.

Editorial Staff

Dominic Berg  is a writer from Montana who lived in Phoenix for five years. As an avid fan of film and literature, he seeks to learn what he can from the old masters and to pass those ideas down to the generations after him. A passionate advocate for the uncanny and avant garde, Dominic revels in strange art fished from the depths of human consciousness, approaching his writing from an empathetic perspective that analyzes suffering and how people raise themselves above it, and how empathy will be what saves us in the end. He lives by one mantra, as spoken by David Lynch, “Fix your hearts or die!” In a world as unforgiving as ours, he seeks to uncover the ills of life and find the silver lining even in the worst it has to offer. When not analyzing the human condition for inspiration, Dominic enjoys reading, going to the cinema, playing fighting games, and enjoying a fine cup of black coffee.

Lee Schroeder  is a full-time student and part-time writing tutor at Phoenix College. She is pursuing an associates in anthropology and enjoys LARPing, writing fiction, reading, and listening to music.

Jesus Rodriguez was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona. A storyteller at heart, he works across photography, film, and writing to capture meaning in the everyday. Previously featured in RISE Magazine, his work leans into themes of faith and intentional living. When he’s not editing or creating, he’s pursuing purpose and building meaningful community.

Harmony Lee is a senior at PCPA with a passion for art and design. She is fond of writing, especially poetry. She loves creative freedom and is possibly going into the field of animation or fashion design.

Anne Barr is a senior at PCPA with a focus on psychology. A dedicated student and poet, she is passionate about exploring identity and human behavior through both creative and analytical writing. Anne writes to deepen understanding of feelings and how they impact our lives.
